This was our first didj. I gave it to my husband for Christmas, 2008. He went wild. He learned to play as best he could and the inspiration he received from the instrument itself helped him write a song, which he named "Aborigines G'day." He sang this song at the Williamson County Fair in Tennessee this past summer. He entertains children and adults with the didj in his office where he works as an Ear, Nose, and Throat surgeon. The didj is like a living entity to us it is almost like a pet.

The service from the Didjshop is excellent. The shipping was fast and the packaging was perfect. It was as if we bought it from next door. I am usually amazed at the speed with which things come from Australia, but this was very fast. Shop personnel seem very friendly and helpful.

I'm glad I didn't respond to this questionnaire right away, as I was very disappointed with myself at first when this lovely didge arrive. It seemed a great deal harder to play at first than the Indonesian painted bamboo didge my son bought me for mother's day a few years ago. I set it aside for a while and have recently picked it up again and find it much easier to produce a sound. I seem to be far from mastering circular breathing. All my complaints are with my struggle. I've always been a slow -tho' determined!- learner. When my music performance season picks up again late spring I'll try to order a DVD or CD to help me learn more about playing. Right now I'm really broke! We cannot get fast internet here on my TN mountaintop, so I cannot take advantage of free movies/how-to instructions on the internet.

Most important is that it is aborigine made and the maker benefited. Can't say that at all about the others. I hope over time I will be knowledgeable enough to make a comparison on sound quality. I am sure it is in total a far finer value.

Large, heavy, low key of A# and able to be played as fast or slow as I want. Deep drone. Such high backpressure, after warming up, that it requires only tiny sniffs of air to keep going. Clear separation of overtones from drone note. Vocals have rich texture and high clarity. The size and weight of the didj gives it excellent resonance and is LOUD!! Once the didj is warmed up, it responds to input at the speed of light. Did not split within hours like my other eucalyptus from another online retailer. Smells pleasing after 10 minutes of warming up. Absolutely no dislikes. My neighbors wholly disagree, though.

The entire surface is well sealed on the outside. The brown sealant on the bark-to-wood transition is a nice touch. Only a couple of rough spots on this area. I did manage to get a small splinter when handling the bark portion. I highly use my didjes and hope this one stand up to all the moisture abuse. I wish there were high quality sound clips available for each didj. I purchased without hearing but am well satisfied.
